Weingarten Rights
When you are called to speak with management for investigatory or disciplinary action, you are allowed to have a union representative observe the meeting. This representative should ideally be a business agent or a steward, although many contracts state if neither are present, another union member may participate instead.
Since 1975, union employees have known this protective measure as their “Weingarten Rights.” The Weingarten language is further example of how unions have been capable of influencing federal labor laws to cover all workers. For more information, go here.
The NLRB continues to fight in favor of individuals whose WR have been violated over thirty years after its inception.
